Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange information between a hosting server and a client. Because the information exchanged by the two sides is protected, a 3rd party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of managing a website hosting account. The commands which can be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for instance, the choices are limited as you'll not have root access to the server, so you can just create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, etc. These are all actions that are performed in the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall be able to set up server-side software or to restart the hosting server or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a lot of apps for other OSs, that you can use to connect to the remote hosting server as well.
SSH Telnet in Shared Web Hosting
If the shared web hosting
plan which you’ve chosen throughout the signup process provides SSH access by default, you shall be able to activate this feature with just a mouse click from your Hepsia Control Panel. If you have picked a different package, the SSH access function may be included via the Upgrades menu and it'll become available right away. All the info that you need to connect will be conveniently listed inside the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You may also set what password to use from the same place and you shall be able to modify it anytime. All commands that are allowed are listed within the Help articles which we've prepared for you, along with examples of the syntax which you need to use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a semi-dedicated server
account with us, you will be able to receive SSH access to it with simply a mouse click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, provided with all accounts. If your plan doesn't support this function by default, you shall be able to include it easily through the Upgrades menu. Once you go to the SSH section, you'll find the information you need to connect to the server via a command line or a desktop application - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter could be updated anytime, if required. These login credentials are also required if you would like to upload files via a secure connection and you wish to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service we provide. A comprehensive list of the commands that you can carry out shall give you a better idea of what tasks you could perform in your account and each is accompanied by several examples of the syntax.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
All our VPS server
offers provide SSH access as standard, so you shall not have to add any upgrades or activate anything - the instant the server is set up and you receive its login info, you will be able to connect using its primary IP address and the login credentials which you've picked throughout the signup procedure. As the VPS accounts feature full root-level access, there are no restrictions regarding the commands that you may run. Your server will be isolated from the others on the physical machine, so you will be able to manage virtually everything through a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. Thus, you may work with your files, databases and any applications you install in a fast and risk-free way.
